Before we meet
There is nothing to prepare. This page is here for anyone who would like to know what the hour is like before they arrive.
Nothing to prepare
You don’t need to bring anything. Not a question, not a story, not the right words. If you arrive with nothing to say, that is fine; we start there. If you arrive with more than you can hold, that is fine too.
You don’t need to be religious, or sure what you believe, or comfortable with church words. I use the word God, and I’ll meet you wherever you are with it.
How the hour goes
A minute of quiet. Then you talk. I listen.
Sometimes I reflect something back; sometimes I ask one question; sometimes we sit with it. We close when it’s time. You don’t need to be articulate. What you bring is enough.
The first hour is free and it is a real hour of spiritual direction, not a sales call. It’s how we find out if we’re a good fit. At the end, if it feels right to us both, we set a day and time for the next one, a month on. If it doesn’t, there is nothing to explain and nothing owed.
Zoom, plainly
The Zoom link arrives by email when you book, and again as a reminder before we meet. Click it at the time; there is nothing to install if you use it in a browser, though the Zoom app works well on a phone.
Camera on or off, as you prefer. A phone is fine. A walk is fine. Find somewhere you can speak without being overheard, if you can; if you can’t, we’ll manage.
If you’re nervous
Most people are, a little, the first time, and many have a reason to be: a church that hurt them, a minister who didn’t listen, a director who wanted them to be someone else. You don’t have to trust me yet. You only have to turn up. The hour is yours, and you can end it whenever you like.
If you need to change the time
Use the reschedule link in your confirmation email; it moves the booking without you needing to write to me. If life gets in the way after a paid hour is booked, what you’ve paid carries over to the next one.
Before the first paid hour
There is a one-page letter of agreement that says in plain words what this is, what it isn’t, and what stays private. You can read it now if you’d like; you’ll sign it before the first paid hour, not before the free one.
You’re offline. Booking will open when you’re back.
Booking asks for your name, email and time zone. Nothing else.
